Classroom Procedures

Classroom Procedures

While I believe these procedures are going to continue, there may be some slight changes due to the “Team” expectations.

These are the procedures we follow as we enter the classroom. There are specific procedures to follow upon leaving the classroom as well.

Warm-Up: Students enter the classroom and follow the “Warm Up” section on the assignment board on the back wall.  They have 10 minutes (music playing) to write the “Mission” in their agenda notebooks, complete the warm-up assignment. Their restroom break is taken before entering the classroom.  The students are to sign in and out upon leaving the classroom during instruction. This helps me to keep track of where they are and when they left. Students are not allowed to ask questions during the 10-minute warm-up. ~unless it is an emergency, of course~ The reasoning for this is for students to work on time management.  Students must be back to their seats and ready to begin class by the time the music stops or they will be written up. Remember the three R’s ; Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse.

Classwork: We will have classwork every day. The students will, for the most part, work in cooperative groups and will be held accountable for the task that is set before them. The whole group will be accountable as well as each member of the group.

Reading: The students will have to read daily for 20 minutes at home. This is a great time to sit down with your child and read with them. You can then discuss what you are both reading, even if it is the newspaper.

Assignments: The students will need to read at least 4 books per nine weeks. The first nine weeks they may read graphic novels. The second nine weeks they will need to choose another genre of book. Students must complete the book and the summary in the time allotted to them. It is very important that they are consistent in their reading habits as the books are due in every two weeks.
